Premier League clubs plan reciprocal £30 away tickets... even if Arsenal, Manchester United and Co continue to oppose price cap

By CHARLES SALE FOR THE DAILY MAIL

PUBLISHED: 22:37, 5 February 2016 | UPDATED: 14:27, 6 February 2016

The majority of clubs in the Premier League are planning to introduce a proposed £30 cap on tickets for away fans next season even if the top flight fails to make it mandatory.

Another vote is expected at the next summit of Premier League clubs in March after at least seven teams — Arsenal, Manchester United, Manchester City, Liverpool, Tottenham, Chelsea and West Ham — opposed the cap this week.

The mood of the other clubs is to carry on regardless by having £30 reciprocal agreements with all like-minded clubs.

Such a breakaway initiative, discussed at the Premier League clubs meeting this week, would help to further expose the greedy seven or eight who don't want to drop prices — even with £8.1billion of TV cash coming in.

A Premier League source said: 'All the clubs are in favour of helping the away fans. The big difficulty is finding a consensus on how this is done.'

An Arsenal spokesman said: 'We believe the best way of helping travelling supporters is with their travel.'

No Im just saying the 95 dollars are about the 4th or 5th biggest gripe and there are 3 larger ones.

(I didn't even mention my problem with the seats in front of mine.)

Premier League is cheap from my perspective as is football in general. Not to mention its not like basketball where you need to sit nice and close right in the middle for it to be worth attending.

That's like saying the burglars that broke in your house and took you TV, money and golf clubs are decent blokes and you should be grateful because the ones that broke into my house also took my mig vase and shat on the carpet.

Re: West Ham oppose reciprocal £30 away tickets?
So just a little perspective on the prices for my season tickets to my NHL team in Boston I pay 95 a game. I have to take 41 normal regular season games and 3 friendlies.

Im sharing this because I think I might have offended too many people reading thinking what a dickhead.

The team doesn't charge a set price for individual games the prices differ every game at their discretion so its not like Band 1 and Band 2 its whatever they feel like in October the seats would go for about 120 but if its a big game equal to Man City they will do 'dynamic pricing' on the few seats left as season tickets and charge 250-350 on and individual game.

SO given that my 95 is OK. My seats aren't epic. They'd be seats like a good one in the East Stand but not center pitch somewhere half way between center pitch and the end line. So about a Band 2.

Anyways American Sports have too many games. They play 82 games a year that aren't relevant to who wins the title because its all just to qualify for a knockout 'cup' competition at the end where half the teams make it.

So lets summarize. Im totally OK with the 95 I pay. Even being robbed blind and having to accept 3 friendlies at that price. Here is what boils my blood in that knockout competition should my team make it the tickets won't be 95. There are 4 best of 7 rounds. First round will cost 120. Second 170. Third 220. And the Cup Finals (which the higher prices are OK) are going to be close to 300.

So basically if my team makes it to the quarters and semis I have to pay double and over double to go to the games. My friends are all poor Im 30 and do alright but most of the people I hang out with work for 10 bucks an hour I can't afford to spend 400 to give them a free ticket and they can't afford to pay me. So basically I am fucked every which way and the 95 dollars a ticket isn't the problem its them fucking me if my team does well automatically.

Dunno if that makes sense but its where I am coming from and why I say Premiership is cheap and a good deal. Sorry for the rant.

America is obsessed with celebrity and money. The SB wanted Manning to get his 200th win so he was the man....pretty gross when you consider his ugly, greedy behaviour afterwards with the Budweiser plugs.

I'm not sure football will go that way....could be wrong. It has a tradition of being able to allow away supporters to get tickets, where in the US due to the sheer scale of the country, that isn't practical......Sunderland to Exeter is still achievable where NY Giants to SF 49ers just isn't. The flight cost is probably $700.

The SB is immediately moved onto a corporate footing,. On the other hand th3e FA Cup final has specific ticket allocations for both sets for supporters. Few in the States give a shit about supporters; all they are interested in is as much money as possible.

I agree the OS is set up for corporate entertaining but they still need to fill the place. If there are 20k of empty seats because they price everyone out of the market, they've lost.

SOciety is moving that way because we live in a world where everyone wants shit for free and won't pay for a fucking thing bar their 8 dollar a month netflix subscription and even then they probably want to use someone elses password.

When less than 5 good films get produced a year sports become a better form of entertainment. Simple as.

If all these people crying about prices went and supported a team like Dagenham Redbridge instead they'd be forced to drop them though innit?

Yep..it's different now..I accept that.
Football seems to be slowly going the way of American Sport...I watched the Super Bowl..and they kept focusing on the Peyton family in the corporates..like a home from home.
The kids on their I pads in luxury leather seats..different world.
starting to get that way over here now. And OS will be very much focused on that kind of thing.

No I totally understand it being different for a family than me taking my brother to my only game at Upton Park in 3 years after he took me to the Cup Final and bought me a half season ticket for Christmas in 2006.

But that is why there are family oriented games like Milwall League Cup 2008 kids for a quid take the family along for 50 pound total.

But why shouldn't the best seats cost a bit more so they can get the money out of those looking to pay a bit extra to sit together with someone and not have 2 single tickets 10 rows apart?

And if going for cheap and as a family is important to a supporter they should be thrilled we are moving to a massive ground once we remove the tarps from the extra seats currently not available there will be 30k cheap seats that everyone can rock up in for a good price... 15 games a year they will sell them for next to nothing because they are far away from the pitch and 3-4 times a year West Ham can sell those for good prices against the likes of Spurs and keep us on an even footing with Arsenal and Chelsea. Win Win.

I took my lad to an ice hockey game last week. Washington Capitals v New York Islanders at Verizon Centre in DC.

I paid $140 for two, reduced from $260 because this was originally postponed due to the snow dump we had two weeks ago. Add dinner and travel costs and it's still a $200 night for a home game.....

Wait til the play-offs. The place will be sold out for each of the 4 home games, and a band two seat will cost $400. Band one is rink level, so will be around $550, and band 4, nose bleed, will be about $200.

Imagine what it's going to be like at the OS......but what do we want to be? At the Boleyn for the rest of our lives or moving up in the world?

Re: West Ham oppose reciprocal £30 away tickets?
See here's the thing, at home you have the chance to buy a season ticket and mine is superb value for money in the circumstance.

Which I guess is why the focus is on away tickets where the prices for the loyal travelling fans are much more than they pay at home.

I think our owners and most other clubs owners are quite happy to price out the 'riff raff'.
Couldn't believe my eyes at Man City couple seasons back...outside main entrance had a red carpet down and all these flash motors rolling up and bods dressed up like a night out...for a game of football!.
The game has changed beyond so much.

Nobody is ever going to convince me £135 is value for 90 minutes (hopefully) of football.

Corporate for me is a symptom of what is wrong with book but each to their own.

You're paying in reality £110 for a £4 program and the chance to have a beer in a real glass instead of a plastic bottle.

Might be hard for you but you ever considered people might have families.......? I have two kids my pal I sit with takes his missus and has 4 kids that's £300 for the Tottenham game luckily he can afford to lump up for a ST and so can I buy there's plenty that can't afford that
Anyone who thinks £95 for a game of football isn't ridiculous needs to take a long hard look at themselves

Re: West Ham oppose reciprocal £30 away tickets?
And remember Im very lucky to be able to go to Upton Park the replay was a pleasant surprise we weren't home while I was over until I drew. What the fuck else would I rather do in England while I am here than go see West Ham beat Liverpool for the 3rd time this season????

Im a big fan I was at the last FA Cup game against Liverpool in Cardiff when they cheated and we lost (I was poor then and had a ST in the TBL and went to a couple away matches to get priority my brothers took me so I owe them a free game mind you) as I said its a very pleasant surprise and don't mind paying for it.
